Terms of Service

The terms that apply when your school applies for, subscribes to and uses TapEdu — written in plain English.

Governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

At a glance

  • Every school is reviewed

    TapEdu staff approve each application before a school workspace is created.

  • Your content stays yours

    Your school owns its records and website content. We use them only to run the service.

  • Plans in naira

    Subscriptions are paid by bank transfer, or online where available, and confirmed by TapEdu.

  • Use it responsibly

    Keep accounts secure, respect privacy and never try to reach another school’s data.

This summary is here to help. The full Terms below are what apply.

1. Accepting these Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of TapEdu: our website at tapedu.ng, the school workspace at app.tapedu.ng, the Teacher, Family and Student portals, and school websites hosted on TapEdu subdomains (together, the “Service”).

By applying to register a school, creating or using an account, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you accept them on behalf of a school, an education group or another organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to do so, and “you” and “your school” refer to that organisation.

Use of TapEdu is also subject to any agreement, order or quote between your school and TapEdu, and to applicable laws. If a written agreement signed with your school conflicts with these Terms, the signed agreement applies.

2. The TapEdu service

TapEdu is web-based school management software for nursery, primary and secondary schools and school groups. Depending on your plan and the modules your school switches on, it covers academic structure, admissions and student records, attendance, results and report cards, assignments and video lessons, fees and payments, communication, a school store, care and operations, and a public school website.

TapEdu works in a web browser on phones, tablets and computers. Our website describes the features currently available; features may change over time, as explained in section 10.

3. Eligibility and school applications

The Service is for schools and education organisations. To join, a school submits an application through tapedu.ng. Every application is reviewed by TapEdu staff, who may ask for more information, approve it or decline it.

A school application does not create a tenant — a school workspace on TapEdu — until it is approved and provisioned by TapEdu staff. On approval, we set up your organisation, school, main campus and TapEdu subdomain, and email an invitation to your first administrator.

You must give accurate, complete information in your application and keep it up to date. Requesting a particular web address does not guarantee it: reserved names are protected, and we may suggest or assign an alternative.

4. Accounts, roles and security

  • Your school’s administrators create and manage accounts for staff, teachers, parents and guardians, and students, and decide what each role can see and do.
  • Each account is for one person. Keep sign-in details confidential, use a strong password, and do not share accounts.
  • Your school is responsible for activity under its accounts and for removing access promptly when someone leaves or should no longer have it.
  • Tell us straight away if you suspect unauthorised access to your school’s workspace.
  • Administrators can use “view as” access to see a portal as a parent, student or teacher sees it, and TapEdu support may work inside your workspace in a support session to help you. These sessions are recorded in audit logs.

5. Your school’s responsibilities

Your school is responsible for:

  • Accurate data — the information it enters, imports or publishes, including results, attendance, fees and invoices. Check results and report cards before publishing them to parents and students.
  • A lawful basis and consents — having a lawful basis under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 for the personal data it records, giving people the information the law requires, and obtaining consent from parents or guardians where it is needed, particularly for children.
  • Appropriate use of portals — setting roles, permissions and guardian access settings correctly so that each person sees only what they should.
  • The fees it collects — school fees, store orders and refunds are between the school and its parents. Payments go to the school’s own bank accounts or through payment providers the school chooses to enable. TapEdu provides tools to record, confirm and reconcile them; it is not a bank.
  • Its people — making sure its staff and other users follow these Terms.

6. Acceptable use

You must not, and must not allow anyone else to:

  • break the law or infringe anyone’s rights, including privacy and intellectual property rights;
  • upload or publish content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, discriminatory, sexually explicit or otherwise inappropriate for a school community;
  • try to access another school’s data, another person’s account, or any part of the Service you are not authorised to use;
  • probe, scan or test the Service’s security, or interfere with how it runs — for example by overloading it or introducing malicious code;
  • copy, scrape, resell or reverse-engineer the Service, except where the law allows it;
  • use the Service to send spam or misleading messages, or to impersonate anyone; or
  • misuse payment features, for example by submitting false bank-transfer claims.

We may investigate suspected breaches, remove content, and suspend access as described in section 12.

7. Subscriptions, fees and payments

  • Plans are priced in Nigerian naira. A paid plan may be priced per student or at a flat price for your organisation, and paid monthly or yearly. Plans are shown on our pricing page or in a quote. Pricing on our website is indicative; contact us for a tailored quote.
  • Per-student prices are calculated from your school’s active student count when you subscribe.
  • Your school subscribes from Settings → Billing. You can pay by bank transfer to TapEdu’s account using the payment reference shown, and TapEdu staff confirm the transfer. Online payment is available only where it has been set up.
  • A subscription becomes active once payment is confirmed, or straight away for a free plan. Activation records the start and end date of the period you have paid for and switches on the modules included in your plan.
  • If a payment fails or is not received, the subscription is not activated or renewed, and we may limit the modules available to your school or suspend access after letting you know. Turning modules off does not delete your data.
  • We may change our prices. A change will not affect a period you have already paid for, and we will let you know before a new price applies to your school.
  • Any taxes that apply will be shown on your quote or invoice. Refunds of subscription fees, if any, are handled as set out in your quote or agreement, or as the law requires.

8. School content and public websites

  • Your school owns the content it puts into TapEdu — records, documents, results, news, photos, videos and website pages (“School Content”).
  • You give TapEdu a non-exclusive licence to host, store, copy, process and display School Content only as needed to provide, secure and support the Service, including publishing your public school website when you choose to publish it.
  • Your school website is hosted on a TapEdu subdomain, such as schoolname.tapedu.ng. The subdomain remains part of the Service, and we may rename, suspend or reactivate it — for example if a name is reserved, misleading or infringes someone’s rights, or if your account is suspended.
  • You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed for what you publish, including permission to publish photos and videos of students.
  • To keep school websites safe, website content is sanitised: scripts and custom styling code are not allowed.
  • We may remove or disable content that breaks these Terms or the law, or that we are legally required to take down. If you believe content on a TapEdu website is unlawful or infringes your rights, tell us through our contact page.

9. Data protection

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data. For school-community data, your school is the data controller and TapEdu acts as its data processor: we process that data only to provide the Service, on your school’s instructions, and we keep it confidential and secure.

Each of us will comply with our obligations under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 and the regulations and directives made under it. Where required, we will agree additional data-processing terms with your school.

10. Availability, changes and support

  • We work to keep TapEdu available, secure and reliable, but we do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may need to carry out maintenance, and some events are outside our control.
  • We may add, change or remove features. If we plan to remove a significant feature your school relies on, we will try to give you reasonable notice.
  • Support is available through our contact page and any other channels we tell your school about. Your school can also raise a complaint with the TapEdu team from inside its workspace.

11. Third-party services

Some features rely on services run by others — for example, payment providers a school chooses to enable, email delivery, and YouTube or Vimeo for video lessons a teacher links to. Those services have their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.

12. Suspension and termination

  • Your school can stop using TapEdu at any time by contacting us.
  • We may suspend or restrict access — for a user, a module or a whole school — if we reasonably believe there has been a breach of these Terms, there is a security risk, payment has not been made, or the law requires it. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put things right.
  • We may end these Terms with a school by giving reasonable notice, or immediately for a serious or repeated breach.
  • When a school’s account ends, access stops. We will delete or anonymise the school’s data in line with its instructions and our Privacy Policy, unless the law requires us to keep it. Please contact us before your account closes to discuss your school’s data.

13. Intellectual property

TapEdu, including its software, design, templates, logos and documentation, belongs to TapEdu or its licensors. Subject to these Terms, we give your school a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its own educational and administrative purposes while its account is active.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.

14. Disclaimers

TapEdu is a tool to help schools run. Your school remains responsible for its academic, financial and safeguarding decisions, including checking results, report cards and fees before they are published or relied on.

Except as expressly stated in these Terms, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TapEdu is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with the Service.

Our total liability to a school for all claims arising in any 12-month period is limited to the subscription fees that school paid to TapEdu for the Service in that period.

Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under the law.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

If a dispute arises, we will first try to resolve it with you in good faith. If it cannot be resolved that way, it will be decided by a court of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria.

17. General

  • If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
  • If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up.
  • Your school may not transfer its rights under these Terms without our written consent.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page with a new “last updated” date and, for significant changes, let school administrators know before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
