How it works

How attendance works in TapEdu

One register per class arm, every school day.

  1. Step 1: Open today's register

    The class teacher opens the daily register for their class arm from the Teacher Portal, on a phone or a laptop.

  2. Step 2: Mark the exceptions

    Mark everyone present in one click, then set Absent, Late or Excused for the students who need it.

  3. Step 3: Finalise the register

    Finalising saves the day's record and sends in-app alerts to the guardians of students marked absent or late.

  4. Step 4: Review and report

    Admins see today's attendance on the dashboard and use history and class summaries; parents and students see their own records.

How do teachers take attendance in TapEdu?
The class teacher opens the daily register for their class arm, marks everyone present in one click, changes any student who is absent, late or excused, and finalises the register. It works in any browser, so teachers can use a phone, tablet or laptop.
Can parents see their child's attendance?
Yes. Parents see today's status and attendance history in the Family Portal, as long as the attendance access flag is on for their link to the child. When a register is finalised, guardians of absent or late students also get an in-app notification.
Can a register be corrected after it is finalised?
Yes. Authorised staff can correct an individual student's record, and each correction is kept in a correction trail. Registers can also be locked and unlocked to control when changes are allowed.
Can we see attendance for a whole class?
Yes. Attendance history and a class summary report show the present, absent, late and excused marks for the class, and each student's term report includes their attendance with a percentage.
Does TapEdu support biometric or period-by-period attendance?
No. TapEdu uses one daily register per class arm, which is how most schools take the morning register. It does not use biometric, card or QR scanning, and it does not record attendance for each lesson period.
